A seven-year research program is the path to create the Quatuor calibre. The four tilted sprung balances work in pairs at a 90° angle and are linked with five differentials so they can instantely compensate the effect of gravity thanks to the different changes in position of the owner's wrist. What the tourbillon achieves over the course of a minute, the Quatuor achieves it instantly. Most of the automatic calibres in Haute Horlogerie operate at a frequency of 4 Hz. The Quatuor movement raises the bar much higher with a frequency of 4x4 Hz. As of today, Roger Dubuis is still one of the only maisons to be able to master such a complicated calibre.
Made of multi-layered carbon, this Excalibur Quator is 60% lighter than a gold execution for a better ergonomy.
The Gravity Compensation Concept is a feat created and developped by the highly-skille watchmakers of Roger Dubuis. It is a system enabeling to compensate the gravity instantly. 3 patents were registered for this calibre: the geometric conception with 90° balances being the fundation of the Gravity Compensation Concept, non-resonating balances allowing for no disturbances between the functioning of each balance, the power reserve indicator conception allowing for less usage of space with a direct connection to the main barrel 5 differentials are necessary to averge the run of each balance and connect them with the main gear train of the calibre The calibre is certified by the Poinçon de Genève, one of the most demanding certifications in the world of the Haute Horlogerie.
